iPhone 4 Teardown by ifixit.com
| Interestingly enough, the storage capacity is not etched on the outer case of the iPhone 4. We'd expect our 32 GB iPhone 4 to fulfill its promise and give us, well, 32 GB. Unfortunately it has an actual capacity of 29.06 GB. Given the fact that 301 MB of "other" data is being stored in memory, this leaves the user with 28.77 GB of free space. In terms of OS, the iPhone 4 comes preinstalled with the newly released iPhone OS 4, build 8A293. The iPhone 4 is Model A1332. Interestingly, that's a lower number than the A1337 iPad 3G. |
| Like the iPhone 3G and 3GS, there are two silver Phillips #00 screws at the bottom of the phone. In a departure from the design of the 3G and 3GS, removing the screws releases the rear case, not the front glass. This design makes switching out the rear panel trivial, but unfortunately means that replacing the iPhone 4 front panel will likely be rather challenging. |
| Removing rear panel gives us a pretty good look at the iPhone 4's innards. Holy battery! The inside of this thing is dominated by its juice-provider. It's pretty apparent that real estate was very limited inside the iPhone 4's 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm footprint. You can also see the antenna's pressure contact on the inner face of the rear panel. |
| Luckily, the battery can be easily removed once the back panel assembly is out of the way. The 3.7V 1420 mAh Li-Polymer battery allows for up to 7 hours of talk time on 3G or up to 14 hours on 2G. The battery connector is different than the one in the 3G and 3GS. Fortunately, the battery is not soldered to the logic board. This will make battery replacement on the iPhone 4 fairly easy to accomplish. The plastic pull tab for the battery says "Authorized Service Provider Only." |

| The logic board is heavily embedded under wires and EMI shields. While we're not too busy, let's talk RAM. Unlike the iPhone 3GS and iPad, which are both equipped with 256 MB, the iPhone 4 has a whopping 512 MB! The increase in RAM allows for a larger amount of cached data allowing for a smoother and faster user experience. |

| Behold a beauty in the iPhone 4: a rear-facing 5 MP camera with 720p video at 30 FPS, tap to focus feature, and LED flash. This is a huge upgrade from the 3.2 MP camera found in the iPhone 3GS. |

The improved audio chamber aids in clarifying sounds leaving the iPhone, including calls via speakerphone as well as music played through the speaker inside this housing. Apple hasn't made taking the iPhone 4 apart very hard so far: no 5-point Torx bits or fragile clips to be seen. |

| In what can only be described as a work of genius, Apple has integrated the UMTS, GSM, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth antennas into the stainless steel inner frame. The dual purpose stainless steel inner frame/antenna assembly addresses possibly the two biggest flaws concerning previous iterations of the iPhone: continuous dropped calls and lack of reception. Apple has gone a step further and tuned the phone to utilize whichever network band is less congested or has the least interference for the best signal quality, regardless of the actual signal strength. Early reports suggest this feature, while buggy in its early stages, will greatly improve the phone's reliability on AT&T's fragile network. |
| With the EMI shields off, we can get a look at what makes this beast roar. Lurking deep within the phone, the A4 processor, manufactured by Samsung, is the centralized unit that provides the iPhone 4 with the much needed computing power. Replacing the Samsung S5PC100 ARM A8 600 MHz CPU used in the 3GS, the new iPhone uses the 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 core, much like its bigger sibling, the iPad. The new Samsung Wave S8500 smartphone uses the same Cortex A8 core! Just to the left of the A4 package, the AGD1 is the new 3 axis gyroscope that we believe is designed and manufactured by ST Micro for Apple. The package marks on this device do not appear to be the currently available commercial part, L3G4200D. The commercial version of this gyroscope is yet to be released — Apple got first dibs on it. |

| The front glass panel of the iPhone is constructed of Corning Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is reported to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic. Gorilla Glass holds many advantages as the iPhone 4's front panel, including its high resistance to wear and increased strength from an ion-exchange chemical strengthening process. LED Backlight for the LCD. Unfortunately, the LCD panel is very securely glued to the glass and digitizer. It appears that if you break the glass, you'll have to replace the iPhone 4's glass, digitizer, and LCD as a single assembly. |

| The 30-pin dock connector is where we would usually expect it to be: at the bottom of the iPhone. The primary microphone is also found at the bottom of the phone. |
| Apple is following in the footsteps of the Nexus One by using dual microphones to help improve audio quality and suppress background noise. Interestingly, the two microphones are positioned at the two far ends of the phone. The microphone at the top of the iPhone is most likely utilized for capturing background noise to be analyzed by internal circuitry and used to cancel any noise put into the main microphone other than the user's voice. |

For those of you who don’t know, Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 is based on Geohot’s Limera1n bootrom exploit which has already pwned all current iOS devices for life. The only problem is that it is a tethered jailbreak, which means you will have to boot it into a “jailbroken state” on every reboot. This so called tethered or semi-tethered jailbreak condition however only applies to the new devices like: iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 2G (MC Model), iPod touch 3G and the iPod touch 4G. Old devices like iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model) can be jailbroken-untethered right now using this latest version of Redsn0w. So until and unless Comex of Spirit and JailbreakMe fame comes up with another untethered hack for iOS 4.2.1, the jailbreak we get for the newer devices will be tethered (or semi-tethered).

Hooray iOS 4.3 could possibly be only weeks away! Another FW full of new features and bug fixes!! HAHAHA Yeah right sounded good, more like full of bugs and new issues
With iOS 4.2 only a few days old, speculation has already turned to iOS 4.3: specifically, the possibility that we'll see upgraded firmware as soon as mid-December. MacStories is reporting that 4.3 will drop in a few weeks, with bug fixes and an API for app subscriptions to support the new "iPad newspaper" called The Daily.
As we know, iOS 4.2 took longer than Apple had expected: when the WiFi bug in the 4.2 golden master was found, they had to go back to the lab to roll out the 4.2.1 version that was released on Monday. According to MacStories, 4.2 was supposed to be out in the early part of November, preparing the way for 4.3 on all devices that would be able to support billing for apps that you subscribe to, rather than pay for once and download.
Apple is planning a media event on December 9th that most observers expect will be the rollout for the Daily app. Apple and the News Corporation have been reported to be working for months in secret on the new app, which will be a video-rich news publication. The Daily has been described as "the world's first 'newspaper' designed exclusively for the iPad." Subscribers will pay 99¢ per week for updated news that will be downloaded in the background.
MacStories also speculated that iOS 4.3 would include some bug fixes and other maintenance code, possibly including improved support for AirPlay with third-party apps.
Seems like Crapple isn't what some people thought they were. I clearly recall all the thousands of fanboys/fangirls who all boasted about how superior Crapple was as a company compared to companies such as Microsoft. However it seems like now that Crapple has gotten a little bigger and is doing bigger things now a days, it seems as though they aren't really all that superior at all. Hell even the fanboys over at "fagmyi" are even starting to realize how badly Crapple FAILS these days

Sn0wbreeze 2.1Jailbreak ALL iPhones, ALL iPod Touches, iPad And AppleTV Running iOS 4.1

A new version of sn0wbreeze was released, which is able to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on your iPhone/iPod Touch. This tool allows you to create a custom firmware, and in this tutorial we’re going to show you exactly how to use it.
Requirements:
* sn0wbreeze
* stock iOS 4.1
* iTunes 10
Snowbreeze is compatible with:
* iPhone 3G/3GS/4
* iPod Touch 2G/3G/4
* iPad
* Apple TV 2
* basically it works with all iOS devices/bootroms/models
NOTE: using snowbreeze you will be able to preserve your baseband and use the current version of ultrasn0w to unlock.
How to:
1. Download and start sn0wbreeze. Windows Vista/Win7 users , you will need to run the toll in Administrator mode. To do that, right click on the tool’s icon and select ‘Run as administrator’…
2. Connect your iOS device
3. You will see a splash screen which tells you that this software is not for commercial use. Click OK ( see splash screen above ). On the next screen just click on the blue arrow to continue…
4. Choose ‘Expert Mode’ and click on the blue arrow to continue…
5. Now you will need to choose the stock iOS 4.1 downloaded earlier. Click on ‘Browse’, select it and click ‘Open’…
6. Sn0wbreeze will show you a pop-up window regarding the old/new bootrom. Read it, read the notes above again and click ‘I Understand’ …
7. Now we need to customize our firmware. Just click on ‘General’ and then, click on the blue arrow to continue…
8. The next screen is the important one. Here you can choose to hacktivate your iPhone ( if you have it factory unlocked DO NOT check that ), enable native multitasking, battery percentage and background wallpapers. If you have an iPhone 3Gs with a new bootrom, you will need to check ‘Use iBooty Method’ ( if you use an iPod Touch 3G with a new bootom, you will see a check box for that too ) – again, only if you have a new bootrom. If you have an old bootrom, DO NOT check that box…
9. On the next screen you can pre-install packages. You can add packages from the default repos, or you can add .deb files that you have saved on your computer. You can’t add new repos at the moment…
10. Next screen lets you change your Boot and Recovery Logo. You can use the ones sn0wbreeze offer you, you can upload your own, or choose not to change them at all. If you want to upload your own:
* Only PNG giles are accepted with demensions bellow 320×480 pixels
* Must be limited to 100kb per Boot Logo!
* And must have at least one transparent pixel
11. Once you are done, click on the blue arrow to continue. Now sn0wbreeze will create the custom firmware
12. Now, you’re almost done. If you will be asked if your iOS device is jailbroken or not, just choose NO ( no matter if you are )
13. Now, you will need to put the device in recovery mode or DFU. Here’s how:
DFU mode:
* turn off your iOS device while still connected to your computer
* hold the home button and power button for 10 seconds, then release just the power button
Recovery mode:
* hold the home button and power button until you will see the iTunes logo and USB cable on your device’s screen. Until you see that on your screen, the device will turn on and off a couple of times. Keep holding the buttons down, until you see the iTunes logo.
Lazy mode:
* just use RecBoot to put your device in recovery mode…
NOTE: to put the AppleTV in DFU mode read this…
14. Now open iTunes. It will prompt you with a message that it found a device in recovery mode. Click OK…
15. Hold down the Shift key and click on restore. Choose the custom firmware you just created and click open. MAKE SURE it’s the custom firmware and not the stock one… ( you will recognize the custom one because it’s called ‘sn0wbreeze_iPhone_xxx’ )
16. Wait for iTunes to restore your iOS device with the custom firmware.
17. That’s it. Enjoy

These CUSTOM IPSW's are ALREADY JAILBROKEN! That's the whole point of having a Custom IPSW is so that it's already Jailbroken and ready to go. DO NOT try to run redsn0w or blackra1n on these after you restore because you will screw up your device and have to start over.
To use these files you must download all three parts of the Custom IPSW file that you want to use. Then use WinRAR to extract them. Just right click on ANY of the RAR files that you download and WinRAR will extract the files leaving you with ONE IPSW file that you will restore with. It doesn't matter if you extract Part 1, Part 2, or Part 3, they will all extract the same way leaving you with just ONE IPSW file.
HOW TO USE
- Download the correct IPSW files from below
- For Windows users open iTunes and hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard and select RESTORE
- For Mac users open iTunes and hold down the OPTION key on your keyboard and select RESTORE
