Sn0wbreeze 2.2 with a new “Baseband Preservation Mode” unlock iphone 4, 3gs,3g in iOS
0 comments at 12:33 AMThe iPhone developer and hacker iH8sn0w has just teased a screenshot of Sn0wbreeze 2.2 with a new “Baseband Preservation Mode”. This new mode will enable current iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G users to preserve their baseband while upgrading to iOS 4.2.1 so that they can unlock using existing version of Ultrasn0w.

For those of you who don’t know, Sn0wbreeze is an alternative to PwnageTool for Mac which allows you to create custom firmware files without the upgraded baseband. But this new “Baseband Preservation Mode” is different, as it allows you to restore your iPhone to iOS 4.2.1 without upgrading the baseband.
There is no ETA given for Sn0wbreeze 2.2. All we know is that it is coming soon. We will of course keep you updated as soon as we know more about it. Stay tuned !

Finally! After weeks of hard work, MuscleNerd and PlanetBeing (of Android port for iPhone fame) of the iPhone Dev Team has managed to unlock the new iPhone 4 running on iOS 4. For those of you who don’t know, carrier unlock for US iPhone 4s on AT&T required complete rewrite of ultrasn0w software because of the new baseband OS in iPhone 4.
Looks like I now have an unlocked iPhone 4. My soft-unlocked iPhone 4 (in Canada). I’ll have video in a couple of hours once I can top-up the SIM. My soft-unlocked iPhone 4 (in Canada). I'll have video in a c... on Twitpic |

The DevTeam and others have been checking through the iPhone 4, and have noticed the baseband runs a completely different OS than on previous models. The iPhone 3G and 3G[S] both ran Nucleus OS on the PMB8878 baseband CPU (aka XGold 608), where the iPhone 2G ran the PMB8876 (aka S-Gold 2). iPhone 4 uses the PMB9800, or X-Gold 618 – running a separate OS – ThreadX, an RTOS by ExpressLogic. |
Good progress on iPhone4 unlock with @planetbeing: Twitpic - Share photos on Twitter <-injected cmd! (Akin to 3G Baseband Tool on Vimeo on 3G) Next step is to keep the task backgrounded like we did for 3G/3GS Persistent Nucleus Tasks on Vimeo. Backgrounded task is the unlock. |
Also, since the the next version of Spirit like all iOS device userland jailbreak is ready, it is right time to get the unlock ready too, just in time for that “Pwnage Day” release when Apple pushes the next firmware update i.e. iOS 4.0.1 / 4.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and 3G. Stay tuned as will let you know whenever these new tools are available for primetime use!
